Laura Ben David z’l was a passionate story teller and photographer. Dedicated to the Jewish people and their story, she captured images from Jewish communities around the world. The everyday, the sweet, the simple, the harried moments were all important to be documented. It is because of her that we have this photobank, which battles both the erasure from within the Jewish community and demonization from outside of it. These images of Jewish women, girls and families are a living testament to the humanity and diversity of the Jewish community. Laura was taken from us far too early, but her legacy lives on in this photobank. Please use the images to tell our story – in her name.
The First of Its Kind
This photo bank contains pictures of women from around the Jewish world who have volunteered their time and their faces to battle their erasure.
Why? Because the elimination of women’s images in the Orthodox world has real-life consequences. It damages women’s financial, religious and health rights. It leaves our girls without visuals of role models and promotes an unhealthy sexualized view of women.
